My Parents Missed Hannover’s Oktoberfest

It was the final weekend before my parents return to Australia and I had thought that a treat would be to take them to a city they’ve never been to, that conveniently had Oktoberfest. It wasn’t for the beers, I promise.
I originally wanted to take them to Osnabrück and take Mateo to the zoo there. Looking at the accommodation costs though…
Hannover won. There’s also a zoo there, however, the weather saw to the end of that part of the plan.

Our drive was pretty easy, Mateo slept the whole time (got the nap timing down). We went straight to the apartment, mostly to empty the car and ourselves. This apartment was filled with gaming consoles. In order to occupy Mateo, I thought to put on the TV. There were instructions, but it just didn’t seem to work the way it was supposed to. He watched The Simpsons in German, instead of some DVD or something…
We took the tram into the heart of Hannover. I couldn’t remember where the Oktoberfest was from the last time I was in Hannover due to beer. I assumed there’d be fliers and posters around the main station and we could go from there. There didn’t appear to be.

I took my parents and Mateo on a bit of a random tour around, mostly following the red line painted on the ground to lead tourists away from the Oktoberfest (I believe so anyway). Dinnertime arrived and I was quite excited to take the group to Brauhaus brewery, we might not get “the Oktoberfest experience” but we’ll do everything else close enough to it. The food is very traditional German, the beer glasses are large and Mateo ate Sauerkraut.
There was a football match projected on the wall near us, a bunch of old mates shouting at irregular intervals, confusing us as to who we should be going for.

Out bellies were full, we were exhausted, we collapsed into our beds.

Ingrid was in Berlin at a medical conference.
